Are your past traumas and triggers stopping you from living the life you truly deserve?

There are many different types of trauma, including:

Neglect, sexual abuse, childhood abuse, violence in the home, war, natural disasters, accidents, animal attacks, and the loss of a loved one, to name but a few.

A significant number of people never speak about their trauma, nor do they revisit the emotions they felt when it occurred.

Sometimes we believe that if we ignore it, or try to forget it, it will simply go away.

But it doesn’t.

In some cases, particularly when trauma occurs at a young age (often before the age of 10) the mind may suppress or block the memory entirely as a form of protection.

However, even when the memory fades, the impact remains.

Unresolved trauma does not disappear. It is stored in the unconscious mind and within the body, waiting to be acknowledged and released. If left unprocessed, it continues to influence how you think, feel, and live your life.

Over time, this stored trauma can create triggers that affect many areas of your life.

You may find yourself reacting in ways that feel beyond your control, such as:

• Overeating

• Substance use

• Arguing with those who are trying to help you

• Difficulty forming deep emotional connections

• Compulsive behaviors

• Road rage… and many more

These behaviors are not random, they are your body’s way of expressing what has been suppressed.

Many people live this way for years, feeling stressed, disconnected, anxious or low, struggling to form meaningful relationships, feeling unfulfilled both personally and professionally, and often afraid of intimacy.

When the body can no longer cope with unresolved trauma, it may begin to communicate through symptoms such as: pain, anxiety, anger, immune imbalances, and disease.

Often, these symptoms are treated in isolation, without considering that the root cause may lie in unresolved experiences from the past.

This can create a cycle where emotional trauma and physical or mental health challenges feed into one another. In some cases, this can spiral into deep distress, self-harm, or even suicidal thoughts. And yet, in many instances, these extremes could be prevented if people felt able to ask for help.

So where do you begin? Start gently.

It begins with kindness towards yourself. Let go of self-blame, what happened to you is not your fault.

Take small daily steps: Pause when you feel anxious, stressed, or overwhelmed. Ask yourself:

Why am I feeling this way?

What is happening in my life right now?

Allow yourself to explore your feelings without judgement.

Most importantly, remind yourself:

You are safe now. You are no longer in that moment. You are supported. You are worthy of love.

Because trauma can create a disconnection from the self, rebuilding that connection is an essential part of healing. Self-acknowledgement is powerful.

If you feel ready, you may gently revisit your experience, perhaps by writing it down and reading it aloud. This can help you process it from a new perspective.

Meditation can also be a valuable tool, helping you reconnect with your inner self and create space for healing.

Educating yourself is empowering

Two highly recommended books are:

“It’s Not Your Fault” by Alex Howard

“The Body Keeps the Score” by Bessel van der Kolk

These explore how trauma affects both the mind and the body, and how healing is possible.

You don’t have to do this alone.

I support clients every day in releasing past trauma through kinesiology, a gentle, non-invasive approach that works with the body to restore balance in a safe and supportive environment.

If you feel ready to begin your healing journey, I am here to help.
